There’s a lot being written and discussed about gender and queerness, both in general and in relation to children, so as I read them I’ll put up the links here so you can look at them too and comment or respond.


LGBT Youth Scotland – – informative and useful site from “the largest youth and community-based organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Scotland aiming to ‘empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people and the wider LGBT community so that they are embraced as full members of the Scottish family at home, school and in every community'”

Stonewall – – “Acceptance without exception” Useful site explaining Stonewall’s campaigns, resources, teacher/school training workshops, and ways to get involved. Aiming to “make sure that every LGBT person is accepted without exception both here and abroad”.



Let Toys Be Toys – – asking the toy and publishing industries to stop limiting children’s interests by promoting some toys and books as only suitable for girls, and others only for boys.

Let Clothes Be Clothes – – Allies of Let Toys Be Toys, we’re calling on retailers in the UK to support choice and end the use of gender stereotypes in the design and marketing of children’s clothes. Join us in asking, why not #makeitunisex

Pink Stinks – – We believe that all children – girls and boys – are affected by the ‘pinkification’ of girlhood. Our aim is to challenge and reverse this growing trend. We also promote media literacy, self-esteem, positive body image and female role models for kids.

Time for Inclusive Education #TIE – – A campaign aimed at improving LGBTI+ education in all Scottish schools. Good Resources and breakdown of the discrimination faced by children and young people and how it affects their health and wellbeing and their ability to make the most of their education.



Gender Unicorn – – graphic worksheet to explore how different elements make up our gender identity. Links to other resources and information.
